Dyed Manitoba Maple Burl

The process here is exactly the same as turning and finishing any burl bowl except for the added step of applying an aniline dye to the wood immediately after the initial sanding of the raw wood. Because the dye is water based, an additional step is necessary. The moisture will raise the fibers or wood grain, and this must be sanded smooth again. After this the bowl is finished normally with a urethane and/or a non toxic oil.

It is approx 9" in diameter and the price is $125.
